One look at this image and it's easy to see how the Blue Ridge Mountains got their name. While they lack the grandeur and majesty of the western mountains, these older and smaller mountains have their own unique character. Moisture rising from the forest covering these rolling mountains provides the ingredient to create an endless supply of moods and appearances to these mountains. Every time I have photographed the Smokey Mountains, the mood has been very different. The morning of this photograph, I captured cool temperatures and low humidity creating the rich, blue color with a haze rising from the valley below.
