Hundreds of thousands of years of uplift and erosion have created the dramatic high plateaus, rock towers, and mesas found in Zion National Park in southern Utah. Millions of visitors come each year to enjoy the scenery. But the unique geology of the park produces smaller subjects to experience. The intricate patterns and lines in this layered sandstone captured my attention. The added element of recently fallen oak leaves provided an interesting contrast between the recent and distant past.
