Most of the rock formations in Badlands National Park are a bland shade of tan and grey. Dillon Pass stands in stark contrast. Jagged peaks tower above colorful mounds made up of tens of millions of years old Paleosols or ancient fossilized soil. Yellow is the predominant color, but colorful pinks, oranges and red minerals color the tapestry of cracks in select areas. The best are often hidden and require a bit of searching. You never know what you may discover in a hidden nook or cranny.
