“Door County Sentinel”

Door County, WI

It had been several years since I had photographed the Cana Island Lighthouse on the Door County Peninsula and I wanted to create some new images of it . The low Lake Michigan water levels had exposed the rock shelf that surrounds this small island and allowed me move farther away from the lighthouse. Yet, I felt I needed to be farther away. So off went the shoes and socks and into the water I went. I loved the composition but the light and clouds where uninspiring in this first image. I returned on repeated occasions to capture the image in more dramatic weather conditions. It took almost two years before I made this image. It was a gloomy dark evening and I was loosing hope. But, as the sun was setting it broke through a small clearing and with it’s finial rays of light illuminated the clouds above the island with a wonderful pink glow.

Purchase Options

Museum Wrapped Canvas

Our most popular print type. Museum Wrapped Canvas Prints are made using high quality archival professional grade inks and canvas. Each canvas print is sealed with a water resistant satin finish and museum wrapped over high quality stretcher frames to prevent warping. Black sides allow you to hang without a frame for a simple presentation. For a more formal fine art look we offer (and recommend) a shadow box floater frame which greatly enhances the finished look giving it both a classic and contemporary appearance. The rich and vibrant colors of each image seem to pop from the canvas. Many people comment canvas prints give the feel of a fine painting and make you feel like you are there and could walk right into the picture.
