“Final Rays”

It had been an ugly day; cloudy, dark, windy and cool. After days spent camping, I was content to shower, grab a good meal, and do a little office work in my motel room. But as the end of the day approached, I began to see a slight clearing line in the distance over Lake Superior. I knew if the sun peaked out before setting it could be an incredible light show. Quickly, I drove to a nearby spot along a rocky shoreline that would allow me to shoot in strong winds. The clearing line never seemed to move closer and at times actually seemed to move away. The sun remained hidden until just before sunset when, for just a few minutes, it revealed itself and lit up the clouds and shoreline with its “Final Rays.”
